Domaine de Chevalier 2014

The 2014 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a beautiful white Pessac-Léognan. It offers a very succinct and focused bouquet of dew-speckled Granny Smiths, then flint and wet limestone, certainly a more stony bouquet than overt fruit. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, exquisite balance, the citrus fruit dappled with white pepper and spices, but everything very judicious and nuanced. It offers wonderful persistence in the mouth, basically a class act that comes strongly recommended.

Gorgeous, with lemon chiffon, white peach, yellow plum and yellow apple fruit that has weight and cut, underscored with a long honeysuckle note and a streak of quinine. The finish sports some serious depth; this will be fun to cellar. Best from 2018 through 2026. 1,665 cases made.

There are reductive, flinty touches to the nose – it’s still extremely young – with green and red apple notes and some clear slate and wet stone minerality. The palate widens as it opens in the glass, deepening and revealing nectarine and stone fruit flavours. It’s an excellent wine in a year that keeps on delivering right through the palate and hangs on for more.

This is so solid and structured. It’s bigger and better than most 2014s! What a wine. Full body with flavors of stones, dried apples and pears. Goes on for minutes. Yes man!

Bold, full nose with a tropical character to the fruit – this could almost be mistaken for an Australasian style. Juicy, refreshing and full of fruit, but it seems to tail off somewhat on the finish. (RH)

WOW! Now we're talking. This attention-seeking wine grabs you with all its crisp, fresh, polished, yellow citrus, flowers, lime and honeydew melon. The blazing acidity cuts perfectly, leaving a sensation of crushed rocks, lemon peel and grapefruit that couldn’t be any fresher.

Medium yellow with linden-green nuances, bright. Subtle bouquet, the finest citrus notes, mint and white peach flesh, delicate and multi-layered. On the palate, slender with fine tension, Granny Smith and plenty of aromatics on the finish. Focuses on finesse and a racy character.

Just enough age to really showcase the ability that Chevalier white has to power through the years. Fleshy but precise white peach and green apple fruits. Now that it has a few years in bottle, the quince and white pepper notes are beginning to show themselves, and this is a white wine to make you smile, and to gulp back in way too short a time, with sappy acidity giving persistency, wet stone tension and mouthwatering pleasure. Poised and structured, and very good. Drunk on a boat at sundown, with great friends, a lovely moment of the year.

A wonderfully complex nose with citrus, linden, citrus zest, old rose, and great minerality; a broad, powerful palate, highly aromatic with superb freshness. Racy and nervy.

All freshness and precision, it shows the long, taut character of Sauvignon from a cool terroir. The length is impeccably shaped around juicy, flavorful fruit with no rough edges. It retains the crystalline, pure style of its birth. It will go far.

Elegant, balanced, fruity, taut, sapid, lemony finish.

Pale yellow color. Intense, fruity nose, but also reduced. Don’t hesitate to decant it gently. The palate has a silky touch, a melting mid-palate, yet the structure is dynamic. Long, sappy finish, a touch austere, but it’s very good.

This is a structured wine with its tight acidity and concentrated white and citrus fruits. Produced from a small parcel on the Chevalier estate, it is complex with its mineral texture, its touch of pepper and its fine herbal acidity. It is a wine for long-term aging. Drink from 2023.
