Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Meursault 1er cru "Charmes" Joseph Faiveley 2024 from Domaine Faiveley
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a brilliant pale yellow hue with subtle green highlights that reflect its youth.
Nose
Complex and delicate, the bouquet opens with floral notes of hawthorn and acacia, harmoniously blended with aromas of ripe yellow fruit such as peach and mirabelle plum. Subtle oaky touches reminiscent of hazelnut and salted butter complete the picture.
Palate
The attack is broad and generous, with a caressing texture. The palate reveals a remarkable balance between enveloping richness and fine acidic tension, stretching into a long, fresh and delicately saline finish.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine beautifully complements fine fish prepared with butter or cream, as well as shellfish such as scallops or grilled lobster. It also pairs wonderfully with refined white meats, such as poultry in a creamy mushroom sauce, or with hard cooked-curd cheeses such as Comté.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at a temperature of 11 to 13°C, after decanting for 30 to 45 minutes. Approachable in its youth, this 2024 vintage has excellent ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2039.
Domaine Faiveley: the excellence of a great Burgundian family House
The estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley is a historic institution based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of Burgundy. Now run by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Ève Faiveley, the estate tends an exceptional vineyard of around 125 hectares spread across the region's most prestigious appellations. Combining deep respect for tradition with an innovative vision, this grower-négociant stands out for its meticulous plot-by-plot approach and sustainable viticultural practices, producing wines of great purity that faithfully express the singularity of their terroirs.
The vineyard
This Meursault 1er cru comes from an exclusive 0.76-hectare plot planted in 1977. Ideally located just south of the famous Les Perrières climat, this high-quality terroir rests on soils of limestone marl and clay-limestone. Benefiting from a gentle slope and an east to south-east exposure, the vines enjoy optimal sunshine while retaining pleasant freshness at night. The estate practises sustainable viticulture here, including regular ploughing and partial grassing to encourage deep rooting and naturally limit yields.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand, rigorously sorted and transported in small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. The bunches are then destemmed without crushing before being gently pressed. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations begin spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, in the estate's historic vaulted cellars, which offer ideal natural conditions.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
