Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Crozes-Hermitage 2023 by Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine reveals an intense ruby colour, enhanced by bright violet highlights.
Nose
Particularly expressive, the nose unveils a complex bouquet blending aromas of black fruits, such as blackcurrant and cherry, with delicate floral notes of violet and peony. The whole is elevated by hints of black pepper, olive and a subtle woody, smoky touch.
Palate
The attack is crisp and vibrant, offering a juicy palate full of energy. Carried by beautiful tension and fine, silky tannins, this red wine seduces with its freshness. The long, spicy finish stands out with a delicate saline touch.
Food and wine pairings
This Syrah pairs wonderfully with flavourful meats such as a grilled rib of beef, roast duck or a lamb tagine. It will also accompany firm-fleshed fish very well, such as a swordfish steak or sesame-crusted red tuna.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this 2023 vintage slightly chilled, at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. Accessible in its youth, this wine can also rest in the cellar and be enjoyed until around 2028.
The energy and precision of a Syrah from the Rhône Valley
The estate
Founded by passionate enthusiasts who started from scratch, Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott is a must-know property of France's Rhône Valley. The adventure began with the purchase of a first fallow plot in 2015. Based in Ampuis, Graeme and Julie Bott, the current owners, first vinified in a small garage before expanding. Now at the head of a 12-hectare vineyard, the winegrowing couple stands out for their entirely manual work and a rigorous plot-by-plot approach, giving rise to wines renowned for their elegance, freshness and great precision.
The vineyard
The grapes destined for this Crozes-Hermitage wine come from specific terroirs, carefully selected by the estate. The vines thrive on soils composed of alluvium and rolled pebbles. These geological features ensure excellent drainage and release heat, thus promoting optimal ripening of the berries while preserving their freshness.
Winemaking and ageing
True to the estate's philosophy, the winemaking favours finesse and fruit expression through gentle extractions. After vinification, the wine benefits from a meticulous ten-month ageing in French oak barrels, allowing the tannins to be polished without masking the brilliance of the grape variety.
