The Precision of a Burgundy Terroir Revealed by Domaine Guffens-Heynen
The Estate
Founded in 1979 by a passionate Belgian couple, Domaine Guffens-Heynen is located in Sologny, in the heart of Burgundy, France. Still run today by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine, the estate has established itself thanks to a distinctive philosophy that favours human insight and meticulous work over the sole influence of terroir. Recognised for their innovative approach, the owners have also expanded their expertise by creating a négociant house and exploring other French regions, all while maintaining rigorous quality standards.
The Vineyard
The vines dedicated to the Saint-Véran appellation thrive on steep slopes situated between 200 and 350 metres in altitude. This terroir benefits from a favourable east and south-east exposure. The soils, composed of a mix of clay and limestone rock, provide demanding conditions that help preserve acidity and lend beautiful mineral complexity to the grapes.
The Vintage
The year 2022 was marked by hot and dry weather conditions. After mild temperatures from February onward and a spring frost episode without major consequences, the summer season proved particularly scorching and arid. Despite a rainfall deficit, some June showers helped preserve the vines' growth cycle in the face of the drought.
Winemaking and Aging
The making of the Saint-Véran Village "Premier Jus" 2022 relies exclusively on the free-run juice, naturally extracted before mechanical pressing, offering optimal aromatic concentration and a delicate structure. Aging is carried out with precision, combining stainless steel tanks equipped with a custom lees-stirring system and a moderate, carefully calibrated use of oak barrels.
