Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2022 from Domaine Henri Rebourseau
Tasting
Appearance
This French wine displays a beautiful red colour.
Nose
Remarkably pure, the bouquet is particularly complex. It offers deep aromas of candied blackberry mingled with notes of oriental spices, black truffle and liquorice, along with subtle woody touches reminiscent of sandalwood and pencil lead.
Palate
The voluptuous palate captivates with its exceptional density and fruity opulence, which wraps around very fine tannins. The balance is flawless, delivering a silky texture and a remarkably persistent finish with spicy, truffled notes.
Food and wine pairing
This great red wine will pair beautifully with rich, flavourful game dishes such as hare à la royale, or with roast red meats like a fillet of beef served with a dark berry sauce. Fresh pasta with truffle butter will also enhance its complexity.
Serving and cellaring
Although this 2022 vintage is already approachable, it is best to wait until 2030 to enjoy it to the full. It will reach its peak between 2037 and 2047 and can be cellared until around 2052.
The complexity and opulence of a Burgundy Grand Cru from Domaine Henri Rebourseau
The estate
Although the family's winegrowing roots date back to 1782, Domaine Henri Rebourseau was truly founded in 1919 by the general of the same name, around the Brunelle house in Gevrey-Chambertin, in Burgundy. This 13.5-hectare vineyard stands out for its exceptional concentration of prestigious terroirs in the Côte de Nuits. Since late 2018, the Bouygues family has been the majority shareholder, joining forces with the historic de Surrel family to carry this heritage forward. Now under the technical direction of Bastien Giraud, the estate combines age-old traditions, biodynamic viticulture and modern investment to bring out the best in its climats.
The vineyard
The estate farms 2.21 hectares at the heart of the illustrious Clos de Vougeot appellation. Ideally located at the meeting point of several lieux-dits, these plots lie on a bedrock of Bajocian limestone. The upper section features well-drained gravelly soils, while the middle and lower slope consist of brown earth mixed with limestone scree and clay. Farmed biodynamically, this exceptional terroir is home to both very old vines planted in 1927 and younger vines around ten years old.
Winemaking and ageing
This wine is crafted using traditional winemaking methods that respect the expression of the climat. It is then carefully aged in French oak barrels for around one year, before a long period of bottle maturation, in keeping with the house philosophy that champions the art of ageing.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
