The purity of a great Burgundy Chardonnay from Domaine Leflaive
The estate
The family's winemaking history dates back to 1717, but Domaine Leflaive as it exists today was founded in the 1920s under the leadership of Joseph Leflaive. Located in Puligny-Montrachet, in Burgundy, this iconic French estate is renowned worldwide for its great white wines. A true pioneer, the estate has been fully biodynamic since 1997. Today, Brice Bricheteau de la Morandière runs the estate, upholding a philosophy centred on respect for nature, meticulous observation of the terroirs and remarkable technical precision.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Mâcon-Verzé come from the Mâcon-Verzé appellation, in the Mâconnais. The vineyard extends over several plots with clay-limestone soils, sometimes rich in flint. Farmed biodynamically since 2004, these vines receive meticulous care, with controlled yields and a deep respect for biodiversity, so as to express the full singularity of the terroir.
Winemaking and ageing
After hand-harvesting at optimal ripeness, the bunches are gently pressed on site. The must is then transported daily to the cellars in Puligny-Montrachet. This Mâcon-Verzé 2016 is vinified and aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks for around fifteen months, preserving all the freshness and aromatic purity of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
