The estate

Domaine Matrot has been producing exceptional wines for 6 generations in the emblematic appellations of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Blagny. Adèle and Elsa Matrot joined their parents on the estate a few years ago. 2016 is the first vintage produced by the two sisters, who continue to strive for excellence in the production of great wines reflecting the characteristics of each vintage and of these great Burgundy terroirs.

In 1976, Thierry Matrot introduced integrated vineyard management at the estate, and in 2000 the entire 24-hectare vineyard was converted to integrated vineyard management. Domaine Matrot is known for its Burgundy wines of great finesse and great ageing potential.

The vineyard

Les Chalumeaux 2018 from Domaine Matrot is a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru wine that stems from vines, on average 25 years old, planted on a pebby hill made up of limestone marl and facing due east.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes were harvested by hand and then pressed as whole grapes. Following a 24-hour decantation, the must was settled and put into barrels. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out with indigenous yeasts followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged on its lees for 15 months in oak barrels of 1 to 3 years. The end of the maturing process was carried out in vats for 1 month before bottling.
