The Estate
Created in 1937 by Marcel Janin with the acquisition of the first plots in Tremblay, Domaine Paul Janin now spans a family vineyard in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation in the heart of Beaujolais. Eric Janin, the current owner since 2008, represents the fourth generation of this winemaking lineage established in Romanèche-Thorins. The estate stands out for its unique terroir marked by the presence of manganese and its century-old Greneriers plots. A pioneer of sustainable agriculture since 1995 with the abandonment of herbicides, it favors meticulous soil work.

The Vineyard
The Greneriers constitute an exceptional plot of Moulin-à-Vent, planted before 1914 on the eponymous lieu-dit in Romanèche-Thorins. This century-old vineyard sits on deeply weathered granite soils, characteristic of the appellation's terroir. The vines are trained using the traditional low gobelet method and benefit from respectful soil work with three to four shallow ploughings per year, excluding any herbicide use. This approach yields very low yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare, a guarantee of concentration and quality.

The Vintage
The vinification of the Greneriers 2022 begins with an early hand-harvest carried out on September 1st. The grapes are transported in small crates to preserve their integrity, then sorted on a sorting table in the cellar. Vinification lasts twelve to fifteen days before pressing, with 80 % whole-cluster fermentation which preserves the aromatic finesse of gamay. Aging then takes place over eighteen months in tanks on fine lees, allowing the wine to develop its complexity while retaining its freshness.

Grape Variety

The Greneriers 2022 from Domaine Paul Janin is made exclusively from gamay, the emblematic grape variety of Beaujolais, which finds in the granite terroir of Moulin-à-Vent a particularly noble and concentrated expression.
