Description
A Red wine from Beaujolais combining finesse and aromatic intensity
The estate
Created in 1937 by Marcel Janin with the acquisition of the first parcels of Tremblay, the Domaine Paul Janin now spans several prestigious lieux-dits of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation in Beaujolais, in Romanèche-Thorins. Eric Janin, fourth generation, has been running the estate since 2008, joined in 2018 by his daughter Perrine. The estate stands out for its manganese-rich soils, its century-old vines in Les Greneriers, and its environmentally friendly practices adopted as early as 1995.
The vineyard
The Tremblay vines thrive on the exceptional terroirs of Moulin-à-Vent, located between Romanèche-Thorins and Chénas. The vineyard covers six prestigious lieux-dits: Les Greneriers, Les Burdelines, Les Pérelles, Champs de Cours, Les Brussellions and Aux Caves. The highly weathered granite soils, hillsides and ancient alluvial deposits are mainly planted with old vines aged 40 to 70 years, trained in the low, traditional goblet system, complemented by some 10-year-old vines pruned in double cordon. The respectful soil work, with 3 to 4 plowings per year and the complete absence of herbicides, allows for controlled yields of 30 hl/ha.
Winemaking and aging
The fully manual harvest of the 2023 Vignes du Tremblay is followed by a meticulous sorting on a selection table in the winery. Fermentation lasts 12 to 15 days before pressing, with 70% whole bunches preserving the integrity of the grapes. Aging takes place over 15 months in tanks on fine lees. Each parcel origin is vinified and aged separately, then blended after tasting just before bottling.
Grape variety
This 2023 Vignes du Tremblay from Domaine Paul Janin is 100% Gamay, the emblematic grape variety of Beaujolais.
