Description
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions for La Combe de Malleval 2022 from Domaine Stéphane Ogier
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a clear, bright straw-yellow hue.
Nose
The bouquet reveals remarkable aromatic intensity, expressing notes of ripe apricot, white peach, and citrus fruit. These fruity aromas are enhanced by vanilla and honeyed nuances, alongside floral touches and a subtle, granite-driven minerality characteristic of the terroir.
Palate
The attack is broad and generous, unfolding a richly velvety texture. The palate is silky and full-bodied, beautifully balanced by a lively tension that highlights the wine’s freshness. The finish stands out for its persistence and remarkable balance, leaving a harmonious and delicate impression.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Condrieu is an ideal match for fried fish, pike quenelles with Nantua sauce, parsley frog legs, or shellfish. It also pairs wonderfully with poultry in a creamy sauce, grilled fish, a fruit tart, or a well-aged Saint-Marcellin. Serve at 12°C to fully appreciate its aromas.
Serving and Cellaring
La Combe de Malleval 2022 can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favorably through 2030.
An Elegant, Generous Condrieu from Domaine Stéphane Ogier
The Estate
For 6 generations, the Ogier family has been among the key producers of great wines from the Rhône Valley. After studying viticulture and oenology and gaining extensive experience both in Burgundy and abroad, Stéphane Ogier joined the family estate in 1997 alongside his father, Michel Ogier. Produced in limited quantities and showcasing the purest expression of their original terroir through parcel-by-parcel vinifications, the wines of Domaine Stéphane Ogier are renowned for their finesse and elegance.
The Vineyard
La Combe de Malleval is a Condrieu wine from 4.5 hectares of vines averaging 30 years of age, planted on granite soils. The parcels are located in the named sites “Veauvignière” in Malleval and “La Combe” in Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are harvested by hand, with rigorous sorting carried out in the vineyard and then on a sorting table at the entrance to the winery. After direct pressing, La Combe de Malleval 2022 ferments in large 350-liter vessels and in foudres with indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place over 9 months in barrels on fine lees, allowing the wine to develop aromatic complexity and a velvety texture while preserving its natural freshness.
Grape Variety
This white wine from the Rhône Valley is 100% Viognier.
