Description
The Bourgeois Family signs a great Loire red wine that is delicate, aromatic, and highly concentrated
The estate
Arnaud, Lionel and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois are the third generation to lead the family estate founded in 1950 by Henri Bourgeois. Covering 72 hectares, the vineyard of the Famille Bourgeois spans a mosaic of terroirs composed of clay-limestone soils, Kimmeridgian marls, and flint, all contributing to the signature of each of these Loire wines.
Through the passion and rigor applied both to vineyard management and to parcel-based winemaking, of which they were pioneers, the Bourgeois Family produces Loire wines recognized for their quality, finesse, and pure expression of each of these fine terroirs.
The vineyard
La Bourgeoise 2017 is a Sancerre wine that takes its name from an old lieu-dit of slopes originally cultivated by the monks of St-Satur. This cuvée is made from old vines planted on southwest-facing clay-siliceous soils. Omnipresent in this parcel, the flint stones have the main advantage of releasing at night the heat accumulated during the day, thus promoting perfect berry ripening.
Winemaking and aging
Alcoholic fermentation in tank is complemented by punch-downs and pump-overs twice a day in order to extract maximum color and tannins. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 228-liter barrels, followed by racking and aging of the wine in these barrels for 10 to 12 months. The release of this prestigious red Sancerre wine occurs only 8 to 24 months after bottling (depending on the vintage).

Characteristics and tasting advice for La Bourgeoise 2017 from Domaine Henri Bourgeois
Tasting
Color
The color is a beautiful garnet ruby.
Nose
The nose combines aromas of fully ripe red fruits (Morello cherries, prunes) with subtle vanilla notes.
Palate
Concentrated due to the age of the vines and the low yields, the palate charms with its aromatic range, power, and structure.
Cellaring
This Loire wine can rest in the cellar until 2031 to fully express its aromatic richness.
Food and wine pairings
With its structure, La Bourgeoise rouge 2017 from the Bourgeois Family pairs with hearty and spicy cuisine. Small game or marinated red meats (confit quails with Corinth grapes and a rosemary jus; a lamb roulade with a sauté of local porcini mushrooms) are perfect matches.
