Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Clos des Chevaliers" Monopole 2022 Jean Chartron

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale golden-yellow hue, tending towards lemon, subtly illuminated by green highlights in its youth.

Nose
Remarkably precise, the bouquet reveals a pronounced minerality. It exudes aromas of white flowers, orange blossom and white peach, harmoniously blended with notes of walnut, chestnut and crushed limestone.

Palate
The palate stands out for its elegant architecture and tension. A beautiful concentration of stone fruit and citrus is balanced by a fine acidity. The finish, particularly smooth and lingering, offers a saline texture reminiscent of fleur de sel.

Food and wine pairing

This great white wine pairs majestically with refined dishes such as foie gras or caviar. It also enhances shellfish such as lobster and crayfish, firm-fleshed fish such as monkfish, as well as poultry or veal served with a creamy mushroom sauce.

Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve this wine between 12 and 14°C. Built to stand the test of time, the Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Clos des Chevaliers" Monopole 2022 can be cellared for enjoyment until approximately 2050.

The mineral expression of a Puligny-Montrachet grand cru by domaine Jean Chartron

The estate

Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard, a master cooper, the Jean Chartron estate is a historic figure in Burgundy, intimately linked to the development of Puligny-Montrachet. Today, Jean-Michel Chartron, representing the fifth generation, runs this 14.5-hectare family estate, supported by his sister Anne-Laure. The estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its rare ownership of several monopole plots. Thanks to a minimal-intervention philosophy, the estate crafts wines that faithfully express the complexity and richness of their terroirs of origin.

The vineyard

The "Clos des Chevaliers" plot has been a historic family monopole since 1917. Covering approximately half a hectare, this walled vineyard is located in the upper part of the Chevalier-Montrachet appellation, at an altitude ranging between 265 and 290 metres. South-east facing, the vines, planted between 1948 and 1986, thrive on thin, stony rendzina soils composed of marl and limestone. The estate favours meticulous soil management and sustainable farming practices, without the use of herbicides.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by exceptional sunshine and intense heat. A timely stormy spell at the end of June provided the vines with the necessary water reserves. The particularly hot summer that followed slowed physiological ripening, allowing the grapes to accumulate sugars while preserving excellent acidity, resulting in a harvest of remarkable balance.

Winemaking and aging

The estate's philosophy for the Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Clos des Chevaliers" Monopole 2022 is based on a terroir-respectful approach. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, with a limited proportion of new wood so as not to mask the plot's identity. The wine then benefits from a long ageing period on fine lees, followed by refinement in stainless steel tanks to perfect its profile and precision before bottling.
