The brilliance and minerality of a white wine from Rully by Jean Chartron
The estate
Founded in 1859 by Jean-Edouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a historic figure of Burgundy, particularly renowned for its great white wines. Located in Puligny-Montrachet, the estate now spans a vineyard of 14.5 hectares certified High Environmental Value. Currently led by the fifth generation, embodied by Jean-Michel Chartron and his sister Anne-Laure Chartron Malassagne, the estate stands out for its respectful approach to the terroirs. Their cuvées express with accuracy and precision the full complexity of the Burgundian climats, placing the estate among the region's essential references.
The vineyard
Hailing from the Rully appellation, in the Côte Chalonnaise, this wine comes from the specific climat of Montmorin. The vines flourish over an area of 3 hectares characterized by clay-limestone soil. Benefiting from a very favorable exposure and an ideal altitude, this terroir grants the grapes optimal ripening while preserving a lovely natural acidity, a signature of great limestone terroirs.
The vintage
The year 2023 stands out as a particularly favorable period in Burgundy. The growing cycle benefited from mild weather conditions, offering adequate water reserves combined with sufficient warmth. This synergy allowed the berries to reach perfect physiological maturity without compromising their freshness. The result is a generous harvest with a lovely balance.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Rully Village "Montmorin" 2023 relies on full fermentation in French oak barrels (10% of which are new) spanning four to six weeks. After malolactic fermentation, the wine undergoes aging on fine lees for a period of eight to sixteen months in temperature-controlled cellars. Finally, a light racking and minimal filtration precede bottling in order to preserve the full aromatic complexity.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
