Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2023 Jean Chartron

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a lovely pale yellow hue, which may take on golden glints depending on how the terroir expresses itself.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of yellow fruit and delicate floral touches, underscored by a minerality that is highly characteristic of the appellation.

Palate
The attack is lively and taut. The palate then reveals delicious aromas of fruit and white flowers, accompanied by a distinctive mineral backbone. The whole offers fine structure, carried by a refreshing acidity that lends finesse and elegance right through to a beautifully long finish.

Service and Storage
Blessed with fine ageing potential, this Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2023 can be enjoyed now or cellared to be savoured until around 2031.

Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, such as shellfish or grilled and pan-fried fish. As a starter, it beautifully enhances a fish terrine, a trout tart or a salmon puff pastry. It is also delicious as an aperitif or alongside goat's cheeses, as well as hard cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère.

The Elegance and Rarity of a White Wine from Savigny-Les-Beaune

The Estate
Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a historic name in Burgundy, based in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet. Today, the fifth generation, represented by Jean-Michel Chartron and his sister Anne-Laure, runs this 14.5-hectare property. The estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach, practising uncertified organic farming since 2004, and for owning three prestigious monopole clos. The complementary skills of this sibling duo allow them to precisely reveal the singularity of their great terroirs.

The Vineyard
White Savigny-Les-Beaune is a genuine rarity, accounting for just 3.5% of the village's total production. The finest plots lie at the far western edge of the appellation, on soils of limestone, marl and clay often compared to those of the famous Corton-Charlemagne. The vines, averaging around 40 years of age, benefit from an east-south-east exposure and thrive at altitudes ranging from 230 to 320 metres.

Winemaking and Aging
Crafted in strict adherence to Burgundian tradition, the Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2023 is made from hand-harvested grapes. After careful pressing and blending of the free-run and press juices, fermentation and ageing take place in the estate's cellars. The wine rests in French oak barrels, sourced mainly from the Allier forest, for a period of 12 to 18 months, ensuring the quality of the raw material is fully preserved.
