Description
The estate
Two epicurean oenologists, Jean-Luc Colombo and his wife founded the eponymous estate in 1987, with the ambition of making great Cornas wines that magnify the potential of this Rhône Valley terroir. Passionate, Jean-Luc Colombo favours a parcel-based vinification in order to bring out the pure and authentic expression of the old vines that make up his vineyard.
The wine
This Cornas Terres Brulées by Jean-Luc Colombo is made from a rigorous selection of around twenty parcels. The vines are forty years old on average and are planted on granitic soil, a typical feature of the appellation.
Vinification and ageing
Hand-picked in small crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit, the grapes are destemmed and then vinified in temperature-controlled vats for 3 weeks. The wine is aged for 21 months in oak barrels, 85% of which are from second to fourth-fill barrels and 15% from new barrels.
The blend
Jean-Luc Colombo's Cornas Terres Brulées 2012 is a 100% Syrah.
