La structure et l'équilibre d'un Premier Cru blanc de Bourgogne

The estate
Founded in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin in Beaune, the Maison Joseph Drouhin carries on a Burgundian winemaking tradition across four generations. Today run by the Drouhin family, this family estate has cultivated vineyards in Burgundy and in Oregon since 1987. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture since the 1980s, it stands out for its sustainable approach and transatlantic expertise.

The vineyard
The Morgeot climat is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, at the heart of the prestigious Côte des Blancs alongside Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. This gently sloping vineyard holds the remains of the former Morgeot abbey, bearing witness to a rich winemaking history shaped by monks and the de Laguiche family. The etymology of the name "Morgeot," derived from the Gallic "Morga" meaning boundary or border, highlights its strategic position on the frontier between the Côte d'Or and Saône-et-Loire. The calcareous marl soils impart the wines with their distinctive mineral character.

Vinification and aging
Supply is sourced through the purchase of grapes and musts from selected partner producers according to a strict specification. Hand harvesting in crates allows for a meticulous selection when necessary. The slow pressing of whole clusters in a pneumatic press, followed by juice separation, precedes settling and direct transfer to barrels. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in high-quality French oak barrels, with 20 to 25% new barrels. Aging lasts 16 to 18 months, guided by weekly tastings and technical analyses, with the aim of preserving finesse, terroir expression, and respect for the vintage.
