Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Côte de Beaune-Villages Village 2022 by Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a bright and luminous violet hue.
Nose
Delicate and highly complex, the nose weaves together aromas of crisp red fruits, such as raspberry and strawberry, with notes of black fruits like blackberry and blackcurrant. The whole is enhanced by floral touches of peony and violet, along with subtle spicy nuances.
Palate
Ample, full and beautifully fresh, the palate charms with its harmony. It is built on silky, high-quality tannins, offering a perfect balance between structure and fruity expression.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with white meats, such as roast poultry or a fillet of veal. It also goes very well with mushroom-based dishes, as well as soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting of this Côte de Beaune-Villages Village 2022, serving at a temperature of 16 °C is recommended. This wine can be enjoyed in its early years, reaching its peak between two and five years, and can be kept in the cellar to be drunk until around 2029.
The elegance and finesse of a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune
The estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune, France, Maison Joseph Drouhin is a historic family-owned estate in Burgundy. Today, the fourth generation runs the estate, with Frédéric Drouhin as president, supported by Philippe, Véronique and Laurent. Spanning nearly 100 hectares, from Chablis to the Mâconnais, the estate stands out as a true pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture, having been certified for more than 35 years. The estate distinguishes itself through its constant pursuit of elegance and its deep respect for living things, revealing the richness of Burgundy's terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes destined for this Côte de Beaune-Villages come from carefully selected plots sourced from loyal partner winegrowers. The vines flourish on the clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation, with a high planting density that encourages deep rooting. The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand, in slatted crates, in order to preserve the quality and integrity of the berries.
The vintage
The year 2022 offered climatic conditions that allowed excellent ripeness to be achieved. This vintage stands out for red wines of remarkable luminosity, endowed with exceptional fruity intensity, great freshness and particularly high-quality tannins.
Vinification and ageing
The making of this Côte de Beaune-Villages Village 2022 begins with complete destemming of the bunches. Maceration and fermentation, carried out with indigenous yeasts, last one to two weeks with gentle extraction via vertical or pneumatic presses. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 10 to 14 months, including 15 to 20% new wood. This wood is meticulously selected and air-dried for three years in order to refine the tannic structure without masking the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
