Description
The producer
Owned by the Bernard family since 1983, the magnificent Domaine de Chevalier is one of the great Classified Growths of Bordeaux. The estate is situated in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, which is located in a green setting south of Bordeaux. L’Esprit de Chevalier is the second wine of the estate.
The vineyard
Domaine de Chevalier overlooks a rare vineyard comprising 7 hectares of white vines. The vineyard is planted in gravelly soil with clayey-gravelly subsoils. Since 1986, the young vines have been designed to ripen the berries that make part of the blend of the estate’s second wine, L’Esprit de Chevalier.
Winemaking and ageing
Manual harvest in crates with 3 to 5 meticulous sortings according to maturity. Settling and fermentation in barrels. The wine is aged on lees for 10 months in barrels of the first wine, one third of which are new, with lees stirring.
Blend
This Esprit de Chevalier 2019 of Domaine de Chevalier is the fruit of a blend of Sauvignon (65%) and Semillon (35%).
Tasting
Colour
The bright colour is a beautiful pale gold with vibrant reflections.
Nose
A bouquet of great purity reveals citrus and vine peach aromas. After aeration, notes of flowers and smoky notes emerge.
Palate
The L’Esprit de Chevalier 2019 white expresses a rich and crystalline palate. The finish seduces with its minerality, its tension as well as its finesse and elegance. Smoothness, harmony and gourmandise are the key words of this vintage 2019.
