Description
A red second wine from Pessac-Léognan by Château Pape Clément
The estate
Established in the Pessac-Léognan appellation since the 13th century, Château Pape Clément is an iconic Cru Classé and one of the greatest fine wines of Bordeaux. The Clémentin de Pape Clément Red is the second red wine of the estate.
The vineyard
The 65.5-hectare vineyard of Château Pape Clément is planted in soils made of gravelly clay from the Pliocene and Quaternary period. The vineyard is managed with a micro-plot approach and sustainable agriculture. The property is also certified High Environmental Value level 3.
The winemaking
Manual harvest, sorting in the vineyard. Filled into stainless steel / concrete tanks from 25 to 90 hl by gravity. Pre-fermentation maceration at a low temperature 8 ° C. Fully manual punching down. 30 day maceration. Direct flow into barrels by gravity. Malolactic fermentation in barrels and vats.
The ageing
16 months of ageing in barrels.
The blend
Merlot (65%), cabernet sauvignon (35%).
