Description
An alluringly fresh and complex white Sauternes wine
The estate
Château Guiraud, the first Sauternes Grand Cru Classé in 1855, is one of the key properties in the south of the Bordeaux region. This great name in the Sauternes appellation has been driven since its creation by a pioneering spirit. Since 1996, the estate has been committed to biodiversity and in 2011 obtained Organic Agriculture certification.
The vineyard
On these 85 hectares of sandy gravel and clay gravel, the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon vines are cultivated with the greatest care. The vineyard dedicated to the production of Château Guiraud 2022 is 38 hectares in size with vines that are on average 25 years old.
The wine
G from Château Guiraud is produced in the Bordeaux Dry White wines appellation.
The vintage
2022 was marked at the beginning of April by an episode of frost which, thanks to the effectiveness of the anti-frost towers, had little impact on the vineyard. The entire growth cycle was accompanied by above-normal temperatures but also by a significant drought from April to October. The teams’ hard work and skill allowed the vines to perfectly adapt to this weather. The harvest was carried out from 18 August, the earliest date in the history of the estate, until 7 September under particularly pleasant conditions.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested exclusively by hand, the grapes were fermented in Château Guiraud barrels of one wine (50%) and stainless steel vats (50%). Malolactic fermentation of a period of 10 days was carried out only on certain batches (5%). Ageing on lees for 6 month in barrels, with stirring.
Blend
Sauvignon Blanc (53%)
Sémillon (47%)
