Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Louis Jadot's Corton-Pougets 2022
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The Corton-Pougets 2022 from Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot reveals a ruby hue of medium intensity, bright and inviting, hinting at a concentrated matter without ever tipping into opacity.
Nose
The nose opens on red fruit, with cherry and small berries taking the lead, enhanced by floral notes of rose petal, citrus zest and a touch of spice with a hint of smoke. With aeration, the bouquet gains depth, revealing darker nuances of plum and raspberry coulis, along with touches of incense and undergrowth, hinting at an aromatic depth still in the making.
Palate
The palate shows a medium to full body, carried by dense matter and a vibrant fruit core. The tannins, still firm and chalky at this youthful stage, provide vigorous structure, while a pronounced minerality extends the finish, long and resonant, revealing the full pedigree of the terroir.
Food and Wine Pairing
Corton-Pougets pairs perfectly with red meats or feathered game, as well as roasted lamb preparations. Its tannic structure and aromatic depth also make it an excellent companion for mushroom-based stews or lightly smoked dishes, where reduced juices and sauces echo the wine's notes of liquorice and spice.
Serving and Cellaring
The Corton-Pougets 2022 is best served between 16 and 17°C. True to the reputation of the great Corton crus, it boasts a cellaring potential ranging from 5 to 30 years depending on the vintage, calling for patience that will be rewarded by the full unfolding of its complexity.
A Powerful and Distinguished Grand Cru from the Côte de Beaune
The Estate
Founded in 1859 in Beaune by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the House of Louis Jadot has established itself as one of the leading names in Burgundy's négociant and estate winemaking traditions. Since 1985, the brand has belonged to the American Kopf family, owners of Kobrand Corporation, while retaining governance and a technical team rooted in Beaune. Now headed by Thomas Seiter, this Burgundy House cultivates around 240 hectares of vines, from Chablis to Beaujolais, and has committed to sustainable viticulture, certified HVE and now organic, a testament to its quality standards.
The Vineyard
The Pougets climat stretches across the slope of the Rognon de Corton, in the commune of Aloxe-Corton, in the north of the Côte de Beaune. Facing east-south, these 1.54 hectares enjoy maximum sunshine, ideal for the full ripening of pinot noir. The soil, a calcareous brown earth mixed with slope scree and loam, rests on a predominantly marl-limestone subsoil, giving this Corton grand cru a pronounced minerality and a natural aptitude for aging.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage in Burgundy is generally associated with full ripeness and structures that are both solid and well-balanced, suggesting that, after patient cellaring, the Pougets terroir will reach a particularly accomplished expression.
Winemaking and Aging
The Corton-Pougets 2022 grapes are harvested by hand in small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries until they reach the cellar, where manual sorting precedes systematic destemming. Maceration takes place over three to four weeks in open vats, with twice-daily punching down encouraging a gradual extraction of colour and tannins. Aging lasts around eighteen months in barrels from the Cadus cooperage, a third of which are new oak, shaping the density of matter and the tannic structure characteristic of this cuvée.
Grape Variety
100% pinot noir.
