An Exceptional Southern Chardonnay from IGP Ardèche
The Estate
Founded in 1797 as a wine merchant house, Louis Latour is a historic institution of Burgundy. Still independent, it is led by a president from the Latour family, appointed in 2022. The estate spans 50 hectares, holding the largest area of grands crus in the Côte d'Or. A pioneer, the estate has successfully exported its expertise beyond its home region, notably near the Rhône Valley, developing exceptional cuvées. It also stands out for its own cooperage and its strong commitment to sustainable viticulture.
The Vineyard
The vines that give rise to this wine flourish on hillside slopes with soils composed of clay and limestone. Averaging around twenty years of age, they benefit from a terroir ideally suited to growing this grape variety. Yields are carefully controlled at around 45 hectoliters per hectare, and the grapes are mechanically harvested at optimal ripeness.
Winemaking and Aging
The winemaking process begins with a traditional fermentation carried out entirely in barrels, accompanied by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for at least ten months in medium-toast French oak barrels, crafted by the estate's own cooperage. About 25% of these barrels are new, lending beautiful aromatic complexity to the whole.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay.
