Description
A generous and silky Vosne-Romanée
The estate
With over two centuries of history, Domaine Louis Latour is recognized as the largest wine estate in Burgundy. Its 50 hectares of vineyards, spread across the most prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, give rise to a collection of refined wines representing 130 appellations. As an iconic house, Louis Latour has embraced an environmentally friendly approach since 1996, combining winemaking tradition with sustainable practices.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from the “Les Chaumes” climat, a terroir of Vosne-Romanée, located near Nuits-Saint-Georges. The vines are rooted in iron-rich soil that was once fallow, as indicated by the origin of the name “Chaumes.” This unique terroir contributes to the wine’s complexity and finesse.
The vintage
The 2023 growing season began with a mild winter and sunny spring, allowing for rapid vine development despite some concerns related to humidity and mildew. The summer was mixed, with higher-than-average temperatures and significant rainfall, requiring constant vigilance. A heatwave at the end of August and beginning of September ultimately saved the harvest, allowing the grapes to reach perfect ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
Vinification is carried out traditionally in open vats. The wine then benefits from 10 to 12 months of aging in oak barrels, 40% of which are new, bringing structure and depth to the aromatic profile.
Blend
This Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Chaumes" 2023 from Louis Latour is made exclusively from Pinot Noir.
