Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Santenay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 Marc Colin et Fils
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a ruby hue of light to medium intensity, highlighting the fine vitality of this red wine from France.
Nose
Wonderfully pure, the nose reveals lovely aromatic complexity. It opens with aromas of red fruits such as morello cherry and raspberry, enhanced by delicate spicy notes of pepper and cinnamon. Floral touches of violet and lavender intertwine with subtle nuances of mint, liquorice and pine resin.
Palate
The attack is fresh and energetic, carried by a precise mineral backbone. The palate seduces with its silky texture and perfectly integrated tannins. Wonderfully fluid, this wine lingers on a persistent finish, marked by a lovely salinity and a mouth-watering acidity.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with full-flavoured poultry such as duck or goose, as well as with feathered game. The estate also suggests pairing it with wild boar carpaccio with pistachios and honeyed Jerusalem artichoke purée, or with traditional dishes such as beef bourguignon or mushroom-based recipes.
Service and storage
This Santenay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 can be enjoyed from 2025, but it will reach its optimal expression between 2027 and 2031. It should continue to evolve in the cellar until around 2033.
The elegance and depth of a red wine from Santenay
The estate
Founded in 1970 by Marc and Michèle Colin, the Marc Colin et Fils estate is located in Saint-Aubin, in the heart of Burgundy. Today, the estate is run by two of their children, Caroline and Damien Colin, who continue the family's expertise across a vineyard of around 11.50 hectares. Committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture, the estate is renowned for its dedication to showcasing its terroirs. Although production is mainly focused on white wines, the family's red cuvées stand out for their remarkable finesse.
The vineyard
Located in the south of the Côte de Beaune, the terroir of the Santenay appellation rests on marl-limestone soils typical of the region. The grapes come from historic plots planted with vines dating back to 1910. These century-old vines, with their very deep root systems, draw on the quintessence of the terroir to produce fruit of exceptional concentration. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand.
The vintage
2024 was marked by complex weather conditions in Burgundy. However, the area benefited from lower rainfall than the northern part of the Côte de Beaune, which helped limit disease pressure. Faced with these climatic challenges, the very old vines showed remarkable resilience, drawing on their deep reserves to produce berries of lovely concentration.
Winemaking and aging
After complete destemming, the fermentation of the Santenay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for fifteen months in used French oak barrels, with no new wood at all, in order to preserve the brightness of the fruit. Finally, the cuvée is bottled without fining or filtration.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
