Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the WC Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese Trocken 2023
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a light to medium-intensity straw yellow hue, with great clarity and a particularly bright sheen.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a pronounced minerality reminiscent of wet stone and slate, complemented by aromas of green apple and fresh lemon. Nuances of white flowers and delicate honey, along with touches of wild strawberry, vine peach, and mineral spices, further enrich this complex palette.
Palate
With a light to medium body, the palate stands out for its lively, crisp acidity that brings great freshness. The mineral texture lingers for a long, persistent, pure, and crystalline finish.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine from Germany beautifully enhances delicate seafood, oysters, or raw fish preparations such as ceviche and sushi. It also pairs wonderfully with vinaigrette-dressed salads, mild goat cheeses, as well as subtly spiced Asian, Indian, or Thai dishes.
Service and storage
The WC Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese Trocken 2023 has exceptional aging potential. It will reach its peak after 8 to 15 years of cellaring, or around 2038, and can continue to evolve gracefully for several additional decades.
Other characteristics
Identifiable by its white capsule, this wine has a dry profile with a minimal residual sugar level, ranging between 0 and 4 grams per litre. Its alcohol content generally falls between 12 and 13%.

The estate
Established in its current form in 1984, the estate is run by its current owner, Markus Molitor, who took over the family operation when it covered just 1.5 hectares. Today, this prestigious estate spans approximately 120 hectares across the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region. Driven by a quest for perfection and a deep respect for nature, Markus Molitor crafts authentic wines that faithfully reflect their terroir. The estate has thus established itself as the region's largest privately owned family winery.
The vineyard
The vines thrive on the vertiginous slopes of the Ürziger Würzgarten site, with extreme gradients reaching 60 to 80 degrees. This unique terroir is characterised by soils rich in red iron mixed with fine slate. Farmed according to organic principles since 2007, the vineyard requires exclusively manual labour. Yields are deliberately kept very low to ensure optimal berry quality.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes undergo an extremely rigorous manual sorting process, berry by berry. In the cellar, a philosophy of minimal intervention prevails: fermentation begins spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts, with no addition of enzymes or chaptalization. The wine is then aged in large old wooden foudres, preserving the full purity of the fruit and the authenticity of the terroir.
