Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Domaine Méo-Camuzet Richebourg Grand Cru 2023
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine shows a beautiful red colour.
Nose
Intense and complex, the bouquet reveals aromas of red and black fruits such as black cherry, blackberry and plum, complemented by floral notes of violet and iris. The whole is enhanced by touches of sweet spice, warm stone and forest floor.
Palate
Combining power and subtlety, the palate offers a full body and a silky texture. The tannins, both firm and refined, support a lovely fruit concentration. The tasting extends into an exceptionally long and persistent finish.
Food and wine pairing
This great red wine will pair wonderfully with richly flavoured meats such as game birds, roast beef tenderloin, or slow-cooked dishes with mushrooms and truffle.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the complexity of the 2023 vintage, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, after decanting for at least one hour. Built for the long term, this age-worthy wine can rest in the cellar for more than 20 years.
The elegance and power of a Burgundy Grand Cru
The estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noir wines are elegant and profound, expressing all the finesse of the Burgundy terroir.
The vineyard
The Richebourg parcel farmed by the estate covers a rare and limited 0.84 hectare within the prestigious Vosne-Romanée appellation. The vines are cultivated using methods very close to organic farming, with meticulous soil work through regular ploughing and strict yield management. The harvest is exclusively by hand, followed by an extremely rigorous sorting on the table so as to keep only the healthiest, perfectly ripe berries.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage stands out for a rare combination of generosity and high quality. Despite a summer marked by some weather instability, the end of the season proved particularly mild and favourable. These ideal conditions ahead of the harvest produced grapes of beautiful ripeness, giving the wines remarkable balance and great freshness.
Winemaking and ageing
The creation of this wine begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration of three to five days. Fermentation then starts naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, accompanied by measured punching down and pumping over for a gentle extraction. Ageing lasts 20 months, in approximately 75% new oak barrels from the noble forests of Tronçais and Bertranges. Finally, the wine is bottled by gravity, without any filtration or prior fining.
