Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of "La Giroflarie" 2023 by Patrick Jasmin
Tasting
Nose
This wine reveals a wonderful aromatic richness. The bouquet opens on indulgent notes of perfectly ripe red berries and dark fruits, enhanced by floral touches reminiscent of violet, along with subtle spicy and cocoa nuances.
Palate
On the palate, this cuvée stands out for its immense finesse and elegance. The attack reveals aromas of blackberry and plum, supported by a beautiful tannic structure that is both silky and delicate. The whole offers a perfect balance, with subtly integrated oak that lengthens the finish in remarkable persistence.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with flavourful meats, such as a fine rib of beef or a duck breast. It will also enhance lamb-based dishes, roasted game, as well as mushroom preparations or sun-drenched vegetables like aubergines.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the "La Giroflarie" 2023 cuvée, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 17°C, taking care to decant it about two hours before tasting. With excellent potential, this wine for cellaring will evolve favourably and can be enjoyed until around 2038, although it can also be savoured in its youth for its intense and indulgent profile.
The elegance of a Côte-Rôtie wine signed by Patrick Jasmin
The estate
Located in the heart of the Rhône Valley, Domaine Jasmin was founded in 1860. Today, it is Patrick Jasmin, representing the fourth generation of winegrowers in the family, who runs this historic property. The vineyard extends over nearly 7.8 hectares, the majority of which is under protected designation of origin. The estate's philosophy is based on a deep respect for tradition and terroir, favouring artisanal methods. This constant pursuit of excellence and independence shapes the identity of this essential estate, renowned for producing wines of great finesse.
The vineyard
The terroir dedicated to this Côte-Rôtie wine thrives on steep, south-facing slopes laid out in terraces. The vineyard consists of fourteen plots spread across twelve prestigious lieux-dits, such as Côte Blonde, Les Moutonnes, Le Mollard and Coteau de Bassenon. The vines, with an average age of 45 years, sink their roots into a complex mosaic of soils made up of micaschists, gneiss and clay-limestone earth.
The vintage
The 2023 year stood out for climatic conditions that gave the vines remarkable vitality. Compared to the previous year, this growing cycle preserved more freshness, resulting in a particularly expressive and dynamic harvest in this northern part.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest of the "La Giroflarie" 2023 cuvée is carried out by hand in mid-September. The bunches are then 100% destemmed before a gentle pressing performed with a stainless steel pneumatic press. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with long traditional fermentations and a maceration extending over three weeks, including a co-fermentation of the grapes. Aging then continues for 22 to 24 months in oak barrels of various capacities (300, 400, 500 and 600 litres), including 25% new wood. Bottling is finally carried out at the estate.
Grape varieties
95% Syrah, 5% Viognier.
