Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Domaine de Roure 2023 Red by Paul Jaboulet-Aîné

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a beautiful ruby red hue, deep and adorned with violet reflections.

Nose
Highly complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of very ripe black cherry, intimately intertwined with spicy and meaty touches. Upon aeration, subtle nuances of prune and pepper enrich the whole.

Palate
Fresh and endowed with a beautiful structure, the palate offers supple tannins and a velvety texture with almost chocolatey accents. Its evolution reveals delicious notes of juicy red and black fruits, extending toward a persistent and perfectly balanced finish.

Serving and cellaring

To fully appreciate this 2023 vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. While it can already be enjoyed today, it has remarkable cellaring potential, allowing it to evolve in the cellar for several decades.

Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, roasted poultry or slow-cooked dishes. It will also sublimate grilled vegetables such as eggplant parmesan, bell peppers, as well as sautéed mushrooms or aged cheeses.

The Mineral and Complex Expression of a Crozes-Hermitage Red Wine

The estate

Founded in 1834 by Antoine Jaboulet in Tain l'Hermitage, the Paul Jaboulet-Aîné House is a true institution of the Rhône Valley. Spanning approximately 115 hectares, this historic estate experienced a genuine renaissance following its acquisition by the Frey family in 2006. Under the impetus of Caroline Frey, the vineyard was entirely converted to organic and then biodynamic farming. Today, Delphine Frey oversees the strategic vision of these exceptional terroirs, perpetuating a family heritage founded on respect for the environment and the pursuit of excellence.

The vineyard

Acquired in 1996, this 3.5-hectare vineyard is located in the commune of Gervans, within the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. The vines, planted in 1945, thrive on steep south-west-facing slopes. This unique terroir is characterised by granitic soils rich in minerals, providing ideal conditions for the vine. Deeply committed to preserving biodiversity, the estate has also established a protected 1.4-hectare ecological refuge.

The vintage

The year began with a marked water deficit, offset by welcome rains in mid-May that fostered optimal flowering in June. The summer season was then punctuated by several hailstorms between July and August. Despite these climatic challenges, the old vines demonstrated exceptional resilience, allowing the grapes to continue their ripening at a steady pace. The harvest extended over several weeks to gather berries brimming with juice and endowed with thick skins.

Winemaking and aging

The berries destined for Domaine de Roure 2023 are hand-harvested in small crates before undergoing rigorous sorting. Entirely destemmed, the grapes undergo a three-week maceration punctuated by daily pump-overs, followed by malolactic fermentation. Aging then takes place over a period of twelve to eighteen months in various containers, including concrete eggs, truncated conical vats, demi-muids as well as French oak barrels, of which 20% are new.

Grape variety

Syrah (100%).
