Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for La Rocca 2024 from Pieropan
Tasting
Appearance
An intense, luminous yellow color, enhanced by very pronounced golden highlights.
Nose
Highly complex, the bouquet reveals aromas of ripe yellow apple, baked pear, and jasmine, intertwined with notes of toasted almond and acacia honey. With aeration, subtle hints of peach, dried apricot, sweet spices (cinnamon, saffron, ginger), and a delicate balsamic nuance unfold.
Palate
Full-bodied and warm, the palate charms with its elegance and silky texture. It offers layered flavors of fruit and spice, supported by a very marked minerality. The finish, remarkably long, lingers with persistent and refined notes.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with flavorful dishes such as porcini or truffle risotto, pasta with duck-based sauces, or rich fish like salmon and scallops. It also complements white meats in sauce, spicy cuisine, or a simple tomato and mozzarella salad.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the complexity of La Rocca 2024, it is recommended to serve it between 12 and 14°C, ideally after decanting. With remarkable aging potential, this wine can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve beautifully in the cellar for several decades.
The elegance and minerality of a great white wine from Veneto
The estate
Founded in 1880 by Doctor Leonildo Pieropan in the village of Soave, in Veneto, the Pieropan estate is a historic reference in Italy. A pioneer in single-vineyard cuvées and committed to organic farming, the estate covers 40 to 45 hectares. Now led by brothers Andrea and Dario Pieropan, supported by their mother Teresita, the estate perpetuates a unique family expertise. In 2022, the inauguration of an eco-responsible underground cellar crowned the pursuit of excellence of this illustrious institution.
The vineyard
Located on the slopes of Monte Rocchetta, at the heart of the Soave Classico appellation, the vineyard benefits from optimal south-west exposure and an altitude ranging from 150 to 300 meters. Unlike the neighboring volcanic terroirs, its soils consist of marine limestone rich in clay and chalk. Cultivated organically, the vines, aged 10 to 50 years, are planted at high density to promote low yields and maximum fruit concentration.
Winemaking and aging
The growing season concluded with late harvests extending into the final days of October. The grapes were hand-picked in successive passes, allowing the selection of berries at a very advanced stage of ripeness to ensure optimal concentration. The berries of La Rocca 2024 are destemmed and then gently pressed under nitrogen to preserve aromas. After a short skin maceration in large casks, fermentation begins at low temperature in concrete vats. Aging then continues for 12 to 15 months on fine lees, with careful distribution between French oak barrels and large Slavonian casks, before bottle aging.
Grape variety
Garganega (100%).
