Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2024
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour is a deep, almost opaque red with brilliant highlights.
Nose
Expressive and refined, the nose releases aromas of dark fruit such as black cherry and wild berries, accompanied by delicate notes of violet. It is enriched by nuances of rockrose, wild mint, cocoa and subtle spicy touches.
Palate
Full and concentrated, the palate captivates with its purity of fruit and mineral freshness. The tannins, both firm and silky, support a rich texture that stretches into a long, elegant finish marked by hints of dried flowers.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy the Vintage Port 2024, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C and drinking it within 48 hours of opening. This wine has remarkable ageing potential and will continue to evolve until approximately 2074.
The Purity and Elegance of a Great Port
The estate
Established in the Douro Valley, Quinta do Noval is a historic estate whose origins date back to 1715. This singular property stands out for its identity, deeply rooted in its terroir, producing wines exclusively from its own vineyard. Owned by the AXA Millésimes group since 1993, the house continues its pursuit of excellence and precision. Renowned for the purity of its wines, this emblematic figure of the Duriense wine landscape cultivates rarity and elegance, establishing itself as an essential reference for enthusiasts around the world.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the Cima Corgo, the vineyard extends over nearly 200 hectares of schist terraces overlooking the river. Entirely classified as Grade A, these vines benefit from altitudes ranging from 100 to 500 metres and multiple exposures, creating a mosaic of microclimates. The schist soils, sometimes mixed with clay, allow for deep rooting. The architecture of broad terraces, typical of the region, optimises the vines' sun exposure, ensuring grapes of exceptional quality for the production of this Port wine.
The vintage
The year 2024 began with a rainy winter, which replenished precious water reserves in the soil. A mild spring encouraged healthy vine growth. An early summer that was cooler than average delayed véraison until mid-July, ensuring slow ripening. August and September, marked by sunny days and cool nights, provided ideal conditions for achieving even phenolic ripeness and preserving beautiful acidity.
Winemaking and maturation
The hand harvest took place from 4 September to 11 October. The winemaking of the Vintage Port 2024 follows the traditional method, with foot treading in granite lagares, allowing for optimal, controlled extraction of aromas, colour and tannins. After a partial fermentation halted by fortification, the wine is aged for 18 months in wooden casks in the estate's climate-controlled cellars, ensuring its stability and refinement before bottling.
Grape varieties
A blend of Touriga Nacional (40%), Touriga Franca (17%), Sousão (10%) and Tinta Roriz (3%), completed by 30% old vines in a field blend.
