Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Floresta Chardonnay 2022 Santa Rita
Tasting notes
Colour
This white wine from Chile displays a very pale straw hue with greenish-yellow tints, showing great clarity and brilliance.
Nose
The bouquet unfolds with restraint, offering a dry and elegant profile. It exudes aromas of white flowers, white peach and pear, underscored by a flinty minerality. Touches of lemon, lime, white tea and Marcona almond round out this aromatic palette.
Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate offers a texture that is at once round, delicate and creamy, supported by a moderate and refreshing acidity. Saline flavours mingle with lime and chalk, accompanied by nuances of white tea, toasted almond, peach pit and slightly underripe pineapple. The finish lingers gently on a dry note.
Food and wine pairing
This Floresta Chardonnay pairs beautifully with chicken and wild mushroom ravioli in a light cream sauce. It is also ideal with raw seafood such as oysters, firm-fleshed fish like halibut, delicately seasoned poultry, fresh cheeses such as mozzarella or brie, and green vegetables.
Service and storage
To fully enjoy this Floresta Chardonnay 2022, it is recommended to let it breathe in the glass so that its aromatic expression can unfold gradually.
Other characteristics
The alcohol content ranges between 13% and 13.7%.
A white wine from the Limarí Valley with a mineral, authentic expression
The estate
Founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha in the Maipo Valley, Viña Santa Rita is a historic institution in Chile. The estate, whose lands once sheltered soldiers during the war of independence, is now owned by Grupo Claro, chaired by Baltazar Sánchez Guzmán and led by Javier Bitar Hirmas. With a vineyard spanning more than 3,000 hectares, the producer stands out for its deep commitment to sustainability and the preservation of cultural heritage. It crafts globally renowned cuvées, favouring the authentic expression of its terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come from the second terrace of the Limarí Valley, a cool and particularly arid area located north of Santiago. The vines grow in alluvial soils composed of an initial layer of clay, followed by clay loam scattered with stones. The presence of calcium carbonate deposits gives the soil a high pH, directly influencing the wine's mineral profile.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for this Floresta Chardonnay 2022 are harvested by hand. The clusters rest overnight in the cellar to naturally lower their temperature to between 10 and 12°C. After crushing and destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Aging on the lees lasts about 12 months in 400-litre used French oak barrels, with regular bâtonnage during the first few months. Only 20% of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in order to preserve a lovely freshness.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
