Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Taylor's Late Bottled Vintage 2019

Tasting

Color
Beautiful deep ruby hue with vibrant purple highlights.

Nose
An intense bouquet dominated by wild berries: blackberry and blackcurrant intertwine elegantly. Notes of raspberry and cherry complete this fruity palette, enhanced by hints of wild herbs, liquorice and coffee. The whole reveals a striking aromatic freshness and a complexity worthy of Taylor's greatest Vintage Ports.

Palate
A powerful attack revealing firm yet silky tannins that perfectly structure the palate. Wild berry flavours unfold with intensity, supported by a high natural acidity that brings liveliness and precision. The remarkably long and mineral finish expresses all the elegance and finesse characteristic of the Taylor's style.

Pairings and Tasting Occasions

Perfect to end a meal in style, this LBV is ideally served between 16°C and 18°C in a generously proportioned wine glass. It pairs beautifully with blue-veined cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort, as well as chocolate or red berry desserts. Once opened, it retains its freshness for up to two months without the need for decanting.

Taylor's Delivers an Exceptional Vintage Porto from the Duriense Valley

Founded in 1692, Taylor's Port

Founded in 1692, Taylor's Port remains one of the last independent family-owned Port houses, established in the Duriense region. Owned by the Taylor family for over three centuries, it owns several prestigious quintas in the Douro Valley, including the famous Quinta de Vargellas. A pioneer of Late Bottled Vintage in the 1970s, Taylor's combines traditional methods and innovation, producing exceptional blends from indigenous grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz.

The Art of Late Bottled Vintage According to Taylor's

This Late Bottled Vintage 2019 perfectly illustrates Taylor's mastery in this category that it helped popularize. Aged between 4 and 6 years in large oak casks before bottling, this Porto vintage offers a complexity combined with a more accessible style, ready to drink upon release. The blend combines grapes from Taylor's quintas with those from other elite estates in Cima Corgo and the Douro Superior, creating a Porto of remarkable elegance and precision.

The 2019 Vintage: An Exceptional Year

The 2019 vintage stands out for particularly favorable climatic conditions in the Douro Valley. An early budburst on March 9, followed by a drier and cooler than average growing season, allowed optimal grape ripening. April rains (98 mm) ensured water reserves, while véraison proceeded normally in mid-July. A cooler August with some late-August rainfall preserved aromatic freshness. Harvesting, which began on September 4 in the Eastern Douro and on September 14 in Pinhão, yielded perfectly healthy grapes with yields 10% below the ten-year average, thus concentrating aromas and color.
