Characteristics and Tasting Advice for Vargellas Vintage Port 2019 from Taylor's

Tasting

Appearance
Deep purple hue with black reflections, highlighted by a narrow red rim and bright magenta nuances.

Nose
The bouquet is distinguished by its precision and aromatic purity. Lively red fruits prevail with notes of raspberry and cherry, accompanied by characteristic vine freshness. Subtle botanical nuances evoke fern and undergrowth, enriched by hints of wild and floral herbs that add a captivating complexity.

Palate
The attack reveals a compact and refined structure, carried by linear tannins and powerful acidity. The finish is long, developing a seductive complexity that lingers harmoniously.

Food Pairings and Tasting Occasions

This vintage Porto pairs perfectly with nuts, strongly flavored blue cheeses, and dried fruits such as apricots or figs. It can also be enjoyed on its own in a large glass. Serve between 16°C and 18°C after decanting, leaving the bottle upright for a few hours beforehand to allow the natural sediment to settle.

Taylor's, the Last Independent Porto House in Portugal

Founded in 1692, Taylor's remains one of the oldest independent Portuguese Porto houses, exclusively dedicated to the production of Port wines in the Duriense region. Owner of the historic Quinta de Vargellas estate since 1893, the House stands out for its unique aging techniques, notably the Garrafeira process for its Tawnies. Taylor's perpetuates centuries-old know-how, positioning its cuvées among the world benchmarks of Porto thanks to an exceptional terroir and viticultural expertise transmitted over more than three centuries.

The Vargellas Vintage Port 2019, Expression of an Exceptional Vintage

The Vargellas Vintage Port 2019 comes from a particularly distinctive climatic year, marked by an early bud break on March 9 and a drier, cooler growing season than average. April rains brought nearly 98 mm of water, while a cooler August with rainfall on the 25th and 26th helped preserve the fruit’s freshness. Harvest began on September 4 in the eastern Douro under warm weather, then on September 14 in Pinhão, allowing perfectly healthy grapes to be picked in excellent sanitary condition, giving rise to a great Porto.
