Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Bourgogne "Les Charmes" 2022 Thibault Liger-Belair
Tasting
Colour
A white wine revealing an appealing golden hue, of pale to medium intensity.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet unfolds across several layers. It first offers a lovely freshness marked by citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit, mingled with hints of white roses. These are followed by more indulgent notes of peach, ripe pear and exotic fruits.
Palate
With a medium body and a dynamic texture, the palate stands out for its precision. The attack reveals flavours of mandarin and pastry cream, supported by a fine acidic backbone. The finish, wonderfully persistent, lingers on notes of white chocolate and sweet spices such as white pepper and star anise.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with seafood, particularly fresh oysters, or grilled and poached fish. It also goes very well with poultry in cream sauce, Asian cuisine flavoured with ginger, as well as soft-ripened or washed-rind cheeses.
Service and Storage
Enjoyable to drink in its youth, this Bourgogne "Les Charmes" 2022 also has the structure needed to evolve favourably in the bottle and gain complexity over the years.
Other Characteristics
Made without any fining or filtration, this wine preserves its natural integrity and may occasionally show a slight haze or natural sediment at the bottom of the bottle.
The Elegance and Purity of a White Burgundy Wine by Thibault Liger-Belair
The Estate
Founded in 1720 by Claude Marey in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the estate has developed over the centuries to become a true benchmark in Burgundy. Since 2001, Thibault Liger-Belair has been at the head of the family estate. This passionate winegrower has profoundly transformed the winegrowing approach by introducing environmentally responsible practices and a philosophy of minimal intervention. Building on a rich historical heritage and a modern vision, the estate is committed to producing authentic wines that faithfully express the uniqueness and richness of each terroir, while preserving the natural ecosystem of the soils.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Bourgogne wine come from two distinct terroirs. The blend consists of 60% from plots located in Lugny, in the Mâconnais, benefiting from a south-east exposure on white limestone soils. The remaining 40% comes from Montagny, in the Côte Chalonnaise, on more clay-rich soils composed of white marl and facing south. The vines, averaging over 40 years old, are cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods, encouraging deep rooting.
Winemaking and Aging
After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the berries undergo a slow, gentle three-hour pressing. Fermentation of the Bourgogne "Les Charmes" 2022 takes place at low temperature in stainless steel tanks, driven by indigenous yeasts. To preserve all the freshness and aromatic purity, no oak barrels are used. The wine is then aged for an extended period of 14 months in stainless steel tanks on its lees, without fining or filtration before bottling.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay (including a notable proportion of the aromatic variant Chardonnay Musqué).
