The Elegance and Freshness of a Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine by Thibault Liger-Belair
The Estate
Although the family's winemaking history dates back to 1720, the current estate was officially established in 2001 by Thibault Liger-Belair, who remains its owner and winemaker today. Located at the heart of Burgundy, the estate oversees a vineyard of around 7 hectares under direct cultivation. Deeply committed to respecting the soil and the environment, the estate stands out for its innovative approach, combining organic and biodynamic practices with eco-responsible facilities, in order to produce authentic wines that are true to their terroirs.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from "La Charmotte," a 0.46-hectare plot located in the northern part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. Facing east and southeast, the vines, averaging about forty years old, thrive on a gentle slope between 260 and 280 meters in altitude. The terroir consists of a layer of clay resting on a limestone base, which promotes freshness. The vineyard is tended with great care, including plowing with horses and strictly limited yields to prioritize the quality of the berries.
The Vintage
The year 2022 was marked by particularly challenging weather and sanitary conditions, with unprecedented mildew pressure, especially on clay soils. Despite these major challenges, the last two weeks of August proved to be a saving grace, offering favorable conditions that allowed the berries to reach maturity just before the harvest.
Winemaking and Aging
True to its philosophy of infusion rather than extraction, the estate favors minimal intervention. The grapes, harvested in impeccable sanitary condition, are destemmed before fermenting at a controlled temperature. The Nuits-Saint-Georges Village "La Charmotte" 2022 is then aged in 60% new oak barrels, a proportion chosen specifically for this vintage to provide the wine with the necessary structure.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
