Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Travesia 1908 2022 Tiano & Nareno
Tasting
Colour
Deep and vibrant, the purple colour is captivating from the very first glance.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of black fruits such as blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry. It is then enriched with spicy touches, violet flowers, as well as subtle nuances of vanilla, toasted wood and fresh herbs.
Palate
The palate offers a remarkable balance between power and restraint, supported by fine, powdery tannins and a lovely refreshing acidity. Flavours of dark berries, plum, dark chocolate and liquorice come through, stretching towards a long, lingering finish.
Food and wine pairing
This Argentinian red wine pairs beautifully with full-flavoured meats such as prime rib, lamb or game (duck, venison, guinea fowl). It also goes wonderfully with suckling pig, mushroom and truffle dishes, or aged cheeses such as cheddar or goat's cheese.
Service and storage
For an optimal tasting experience of the Travesia 1908 2022, it is recommended to decant the wine about an hour before serving, at an ideal temperature of 16°C. With exceptional aging potential, this vintage can be cellared and will evolve beautifully through to around the 2040s.
The elegance and rarity of a red wine from Mendoza by Tiano & Nareno
The estate
Founded between 2005 and 2010 by Ariel Savina, an oncology researcher, the Tiano & Nareno estate pays tribute to his Italian grandfathers who immigrated to Argentina in 1908. Located in the Mendoza region, this understated estate stands out for its absolute pursuit of excellence. Now run by Ariel Savina, alongside emblematic figures such as Didier Depond and winemaker Roberto de la Mota, the estate has made the radical choice to produce its wine only in exceptional years, placing its production among the rarest and most prestigious wines in the world.
The vineyard
The seven-hectare vineyard is located in the Vistalba sector, within Luján de Cuyo in Mendoza. Rising to around 1,050 metres in altitude, this desert terroir benefits from intense sunshine and well-drained, stony, limestone-rich soils. The vines, irrigated with meltwater from the Andes mountain range, are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable viticulture. This exceptional agricultural heritage is home to pre-phylloxera, ungrafted vines, some of which are more than a century old.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by climatic challenges, including heat spikes and irregular rainfall. Despite these demanding weather conditions, the growing cycle was successfully completed, resulting in grapes of a quality the team deemed exceptional enough to warrant the creation of this vintage.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand to ensure a rigorous selection of the berries. The winemaking process for the Travesia 1908 2022 includes whole-bunch fermentation and around fifteen days of maceration in stainless steel tanks, allowing precise temperature control. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels (with a maximum of 50% new wood) for no more than six months, in order to preserve the brightness of the fruit.
Grape varieties
This wine comes from a blend dominated by Malbec, complemented by Cabernet Franc.
