Description
The elegance and minerality of a Mâcon-Pierreclos white wine by Verget
The estate
Founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie and Maine Guffens-Heynen, the négociant house Verget is located in Sologny, in Burgundy. Born from a desire to select the finest grapes to express the authenticity of the terroirs, this estate has greatly contributed to elevating the wines of the Mâconnais on the international stage. Today, Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen remains the owner and guides the strategic vision, while Julien Desplans has held the position of production manager since 2016. The estate stands out for its artisanal approach and its absolute pursuit of quality.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Mâcon-Pierreclos come from the lieu-dit "En Cras", a plot adjoining the renowned vineyard of Chavigne. Situated at nearly 400 metres above sea level, these vines benefit from a beautiful south-west exposure. The terroir consists of soils rich in limestone and clay, lending the grapes an essential freshness and remarkable mineral complexity.
The vintage
2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions in Burgundy. Excess rainfall throughout the growing season led to significant fungal pressure, requiring rigorous work in the vineyards. The return of dry, sunny weather in August and September allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. The harvest took place later than usual, from mid-September to the end of the month.
Winemaking and aging
The creation of the Mâcon-Pierreclos "Lieu Secret" 2024 relies on hand harvesting carried out in several passes to pick the grapes at perfect ripeness. In the cellar, pressing is done manually and meticulously, allowing the different juices to be separated. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts. Aging occurs in oak barrels, about 25% of which are new, with extended contact on the lees and regular stirring (bâtonnage) to add texture and preserve the wine's freshness.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
