This Saint-Véran Village "Vieilles Vignes de Saint-Claude" 2024 can be enjoyed now for its freshness, but it has the structure needed to develop favourably in the cellar until at least 2028.
The authentic expression of a great white Burgundy wine
The estate
Established in 1990 by the passionate Belgian couple Jean-Marie and Maine Guffens-Heynen, the négociant house Verget is located in Sologny, at the heart of the Mâconnais in Burgundy. Conceived as a true "haute couture" structure, it stands out for its refusal of commercial compromises and its absolute pursuit of terroir truth. Today, Jean-Marie and Germaine Guffens-Heynen remain the owners of this winemaking institution, while technical direction and winemaking have been brilliantly overseen by winemaker Julien Desplans since 2016.
The vineyard
Hailing from the Saint-Véran appellation, this cuvée comes from the specific micro-terroir of the "Vigne de Saint-Claude". The vines thrive on a complex pedological mosaic composed of marl, limestone, and clay. The house's supply relies on lasting partnerships with rigorously selected winegrowers, chosen for their environmentally respectful farming practices and strict yield management.
The vintage
The year 2024 required particular attention to harvest the berries at optimal ripeness. Reflecting the estate's meticulous plot-by-plot approach, the harvest spanned more than two weeks, beginning on 6 September and ending on 22 September, allowing each terroir to be picked at the ideal moment.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Saint-Véran Village "Vieilles Vignes de Saint-Claude" 2024 is the subject of tailored attention. Pressing is carried out with extreme care to extract the best from the grapes while preserving their natural balance. Aging, whether in stainless steel tanks or in oak, is conducted subtly to blend perfectly with the wine's profile without ever masking the authentic expression of the terroir.
