Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Côtes du Rhône 2023 by Xavier Vignon
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour is a garnet red, brightened by violet highlights that reflect the youthfulness of the vintage.
Nose
The nose opens with red fruit aromas intermingled with sweet spices, revealing notes of ripe blackberry, raspberry and lightly peppery nuances, complemented by a touch of wild herbs reminiscent of the garrigue.
Palate
The palate is generous and fresh, supported by silky, perfectly integrated tannins. It ends on a lively, long and slightly saline finish that invites you to keep tasting.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red Côtes du Rhône is an ideal partner for grilled red meats, such as beef medallions, as well as grilled lamb with herbes de Provence. It is also very much at home alongside Mediterranean dishes, whether a Provençal ratatouille, roast poultry or a vegetable pizza. Enthusiasts may also enjoy it with soft-rinded cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
The Côtes du Rhône 2023 Xavier Vignon is best enjoyed at a temperature between 14 and 16°C (57 and 61°F) to preserve all its freshness. This wine can be kept until around 2030.
A Fruity and Spicy Red Côtes du Rhône, Crafted by Xavier Vignon
The Estate
Founded in 2002 by Xavier Vignon, the House has grown in the Rhône Valley, with a professional hub based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and a tasting boutique in Beaumes-de-Venise, in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail. A consulting oenologist since 1996 for more than 200 estates before becoming a négociant-winemaker, Xavier Vignon now runs his house with a minimal-intervention philosophy, true to the expression of terroir. His art of blending and intimate knowledge of southern terroirs set him apart.
The Vineyard
This Côtes du Rhône comes from vines selected across several plots located mainly in the southern part of the Rhône Valley. The varied soils combine clay, stones, limestone and sand, offering a mosaic of terroirs that is ideal for the expression of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Syrah. The grapes are harvested by hand.
The Vintage
The 2023 vintage in the region is characterised by optimal ripeness combined with lovely freshness, allowing for generous fruit concentration while maintaining the balance needed for the wine's vibrancy.
Vinification and Ageing
For this 2023 Côtes du Rhône, the hand harvest is followed by fermentation at a moderate temperature, encouraging a gentle extraction of aromatic compounds, then by a relatively short maturation designed to preserve the wine's fruit and freshness.
Grape Varieties
Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Syrah.
