Description
Tasting notes and serving recommendations for Albert Morot’s Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023
Tasting
Appearance
The color reveals a pale gold hue with bright golden reflections, testifying to the wine’s youth and the fine phenolic ripeness of the grapes.
Nose
The nose reveals a delicate aromatic intensity, expressing notes of white-fleshed fruits such as apple, pear, and citrus. Floral nuances of white flowers subtly accompany these fruity aromas, while mineral and lightly toasted touches bring complexity without dominating the wine’s primary expression.
Palate
On the palate, this Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 stands out for its freshness and mineral precision. The natural acidity structures the palate with liveliness, while a subtle roundness from malolactic fermentation and barrel aging brings elegance. The finish remains clean and persistent, extending the mineral and lemony characters with finesse.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine from Bourgogne pairs ideally with grilled fish, seafood, and shellfish. It also pairs perfectly with poultry in cream sauce, veal with mushrooms, and dishes prepared with fresh vegetables. For cheeses, opt for pressed varieties such as comté, gruyère, or beaufort, as well as soft cheeses like brie or vacherin. This Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 is also excellent as an aperitif.
Serving and cellaring
Serve this Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 at a temperature between 50 and 54°F (10–12°C) to fully appreciate its aromas. Enjoyable in its youth, this wine can be tasted until around 2028, during which time it will develop secondary notes of hazelnut and toast while retaining its mineral freshness.
A Bourgogne white wine of remarkable finesse and elegance
The estate
Founded in 1880, Domaine Albert Morot is among the most respected historic producers of Beaune in Bourgogne. Established at Château de la Creusotte, the estate now cultivates eight hectares of vines under certified organic farming, mainly composed of Premier Cru parcels. Since October 2023, the property has belonged to Guillaume and Sophie Poitrinal, who entrusted its management to Pierre-Jean Villa, a renowned oenologist with more than twenty-five years of experience in Bourgogne and the Rhône Valley. The estate produces elegant and vibrant wines that faithfully reflect the identity of each terroir.
The vineyard
This Bourgogne Chardonnay comes from parcels located within the regional Bourgogne appellation and cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. The vines benefit from limestone soils typical of the region, encouraging the characteristic mineral expression of Burgundian chardonnay. Planted at a high density of ten thousand vines per hectare, the vineyards are carefully managed to limit yields to around forty hectoliters per hectare, thereby favoring concentration and grape quality.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage in Bourgogne is characterized by relatively cool conditions that allowed balanced grape ripening. This freshness helped preserve the natural acidity of chardonnay, an essential element for the balance and aging potential of the region’s white wines. Harvest took place on September 27 at optimal ripeness.
Vinification and aging
The grapes for this Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 are harvested by hand in small crates and then gently pressed. After settling, the clarified must is transferred to French oak barrels for alcoholic fermentation carried out by indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes its malolactic fermentation naturally in barrels. Aging continues for twelve months in oak barrels, with only 20% new oak in order to preserve the expression of the fruit and terroir. Before bottling, the wine rests in stainless steel tanks for six to eight weeks, during which bâtonnage is carried out to enrich the texture. Bottling is performed by gravity, without fining or filtration.
