The nose is particularly expressive, unfolding notes of white flowers, notably acacia, accompanied by aromas of white-fleshed fruits such as apple and pear. Hints of exotic fruits and citrus further enrich the bouquet, giving the wine a lovely mineral freshness characteristic of its limestone terroir.

Palate

On the palate, this white wine charms with its creamy texture, perfectly balanced by remarkable freshness and lively acidity. The minerality of the terroir fully expresses itself, bringing structure and depth. The finish stands out for its length and complexity, with aromas lingering elegantly.

Food and wine pairings

This Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Clos de la Bataillère" 2022 pairs ideally with fish prepared with butter or cream sauces, such as sole meunière or dishes cooked en papillote. It also pairs wonderfully with blanquette de veau or Brillat Savarin cheese, creating harmonious pairings that enhance the texture and minerality of the wine.

It is recommended to serve the Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Clos de la Bataillère" 2022 at a temperature of around 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed now but will reach its optimal expression around 2027 and beyond, revealing greater complexity while preserving its characteristic freshness.

A white wine from Bourgogne produced from an exceptional monopole in Savigny-les-Beaune

The estate

Founded in 1820, the Domaine Albert Morot is one of the essential references of Beaune. Located at Château de la Creusotte, this historic family estate now cultivates eight hectares of vines, composed almost exclusively of parcels classified as premier cru. Since 2023, the property has belonged to Guillaume and Sophie Poitrinal, who have entrusted the technical and creative direction to Pierre-Jean Villa, a renowned winemaker from the northern Rhône. The estate stands out for its commitment to organic farming, certified since the 2015 vintage, and for owning Clos de la Bataillère, a monopole of around two hectares classified as Savigny-les-Beaune premier cru.

The vineyard

The Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Clos de la Bataillère" blanc comes from a 0.67-hectare parcel replanted with chardonnay in 2013 within the monopole. Located mid-slope with a southeast exposure, this terroir benefits from optimal sunshine. The soils, predominantly limestone with a limestone bedrock, are enriched with a balanced mix of silt and clay. This geological composition gives the wine its distinctive minerality and aromatic complexity. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of organic farming.

The vintage

The 2022 vintage proves exceptional in Bourgogne following the difficulties encountered in 2021. Despite contrasting climatic episodes including frost, heatwaves and drought, the estate’s vines demonstrated remarkable resilience. Late budbreak helped avoid the April frosts, while welcome rains at the end of summer ensured optimal ripening. Harvesting, which began on September 7, produced perfectly ripe grapes with excellent phenolic development.

Vinification and ageing

After manual harvesting in small crates, the grapes of the Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Clos de la Bataillère" 2022 are pressed as whole bunches. The must is then transferred into 350‑liter French oak barrels where alcoholic fermentation takes place exclusively with indigenous yeasts. During ageing, the wine benefits from regular bâtonnage, enriching its texture while preserving its aromatic freshness. This respectful approach allows the character of the limestone terroir to fully express itself.
