Description
Artadi crafts a rich and refined red wine from Rioja
The estate
The Artadi bodega was founded in 1985 by winegrowers from villages around Logroño, with the ambition of producing great Rioja wines in this wine region of northern Spain.
Under the leadership of visionary winemaker Juan Carlos López de Lacalle since 1992, the bodega quickly gained international renown. The quality of its wines has been recognised by many critics, including Robert Parker, who has awarded several cuvées the coveted score of 100/100.
The vineyard
The Artadi bodega tends 80 hectares of vineyards in Laguardia, in the Rioja Alavesa region. Planted at an altitude of 630 metres and made up of old Tempranillo vines that give low but exceptionally high-quality yields, the vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically.
The wine
Artadi's Valdegines 2019 comes from vineyards planted on clay-limestone soils, which give this Rioja wine its distinctive signature.
The vintage
2019 was a year marked by intense heat and very low rainfall.
Winemaking and ageing
This wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
