Marks and reviews
Bodega Artadi was founded in 1985 by winemakers from the area around Logroño whose ambition is to produce fine wines from Rioja, a wine-growing area in the north of Spain.
Under the direction of the visionary oenologist Juan Carlos López de Lacalle since 1992, the bodega has rapidly gained international recognition. The quality of its wines has been recognised by many critics, notably Robert Parker, who has awarded the coveted 100/100 rating to several vintages.
Bodega Artadi reigns over an 80-hectare vineyard located in Laguardia, in the Rioja Alavesa. Located at 630 metres above sea level and made up of old, low-yielding but high-quality Tempranillo vines, the vineyard is managed using organic and biodynamic practices.
Valdegines 2020 by Artadi is a Rioja wine stemming from a 4.1-hectare vineyard. Planted at an altitude of 600 metres in Laguardia, these vines were planted in 1989 and 1992 on clay-limestone soils.
A particularly rainy and cool spring preceded a hot summer.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are vinified in wooden vats with cold maceration for 24 to 48 hours. Fermentation for 10 to 12 days. This wine is aged for 9 months in French oak barrels.
The full and precise nose gives off fruity (exotic fruit, passion fruit) and liquorice fragrances.
The lively and creamy palate gradually reveals firm tannins and a suave minerality.
This red wine can be cellared until 2040 to reveal its full aromatic range.
