The character and precision of a white Burgundy by Arthur Gras
The estate
Founded in 1979, the family-run Domaine Alain Gras, based in Saint-Romain in Burgundy, cultivates around 15 hectares across Saint-Romain, Auxey-Duresses, and Meursault. Alain Gras and his son Arthur Gras have co-managed the estate since 2020. Arthur Gras promotes a rigorous single-vineyard approach, notably on the Sous le Château climat. Sustainable viticulture and careful élevage showcase Burgundy’s clay-limestone soils.
The vineyard
The lieu-dit "Les Hautés" takes its name from its privileged position on the upper eastern slope at the entrance to the Auxey-Duresses valley. This 57.71-are plot enjoys favorable exposure, allowing Chardonnay to fully express the character of this Burgundian appellation.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was marked by contrasting weather conditions. After a mild winter and an early spring, summer alternated between hot spells and cooler periods. These conditions enabled a slow, gradual ripening of Chardonnay, fostering aromatic development while preserving natural acidity.
Winemaking and aging
Auxey-Duresses Village "Les Hautés" 2023 is crafted using traditional methods. After hand harvesting and pneumatic pressing, alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in barrels under temperature control. Aging lasts 12 months in barrels, 30% of which are new, bringing complexity and structure to the wine.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
