Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Beaune 1er Cru "du Château" Domaine 2012 Bouchard Père & Fils
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep garnet hue, enhanced by subtle brown and mauve nuances.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet stands out for its great complexity, exuding aromas of candied red fruits and fig. Delicate floral notes of peony intertwine with a subtle touch of dark chocolate.
Palate
Harmonious and deep, the palate offers a beautiful maturity supported by tannins that are dense, fine and fleshy all at once. The remarkably long finish oscillates between delicacy and intensity, extending the experience with flavours of red fruits and nuances of violet.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with white meats in creamy sauce, high-quality poultry, or delicately cooked red meats. It also goes wonderfully with moderately aged Burgundian cheeses such as Époisses or Langres.
Service and storage
For an optimal tasting experience of the Beaune 1er Cru "du Château" Domaine 2012, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 17°C, after decanting for a maximum of 30 to 60 minutes. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2032, provided it is kept under good storage conditions.
The authentic expression of a mosaic of terroirs within the Beaune appellation
The estate
Founded in 1731, the house of Bouchard Père & Fils stands as a historic institution of Burgundy, France. Based at the heart of the famous Château de Beaune since 1820, it oversees an exceptional winemaking heritage. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate is certified High Environmental Value and is continuing its conversion to organic farming. Since 2022, the property has been part of the Artémis Domaines group, owned by the Pinault family. Combining tradition and precision, the house continues to showcase the diversity of Burgundian terroirs.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a rigorous selection of seventeen distinct plots classified as Premier Cru, all located within the Beaune appellation. This geographical diversity captures the full complexity of the microclimates and the richness of the soils of this emblematic terroir of the Côte de Beaune.
The vintage
The year 2012 was marked by particularly capricious weather conditions. After a mild and humid winter, an early spring was abruptly halted by a frost episode in April, leading to significant coulure. June, cold and rainy, caused millerandage, while summer alternated between intense heat and violent storms. Fortunately, a sunny and mild September allowed the surviving grapes to reach exceptional concentration and ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries, followed by meticulous grape-by-grape sorting. To craft the Beaune 1er Cru "du Château" Domaine 2012, each plot is vinified separately to respect its individual identity. Maceration is carried out moderately, over a period of fifteen to twenty days, allowing for gentle extraction before the final blend.
