Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Beaune 1er cru "du Château" Domaine 2020 Bouchard Père & Fils
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a deep garnet hue.
Nose
Generous and open, the bouquet reveals seductive notes of red fruit, dominated by cherry and morello cherry, subtly complemented by touches of wild strawberry and a delicate hint of grenadine.
Palate
The attack is fleshy and supple, opening onto a fruity mid-palate. Remarkably elegant, this medium-bodied wine is built on satiny, perfectly integrated tannins. The finish, wonderfully persistent, lingers on cherry aromas with light notes of cocoa.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs ideally with roasted red meats such as beef or lamb, as well as with poultry like duck or goose. It also goes wonderfully with dishes featuring wild mushrooms and characterful cheeses, such as Époisses.
Service and storage
The Beaune 1er cru "du Château" Domaine 2020 offers an optimal tasting window of approximately 2025 to 2030. When stored under proper conditions, it can be cellared until around 2040.
The elegance and complexity of a great red wine from the Côte de Beaune
The estate
Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, the house of Bouchard Père & Fils is a historic institution of Burgundy, based at the celebrated Château de Beaune. With an exceptional heritage, the estate has distinguished itself through the acquisition of prestigious terroirs over the centuries, now spanning approximately 130 hectares. Since 2022, the estate has been owned by Artémis Domaines, which brings fresh momentum while preserving the house's excellence. Under the technical direction of Mickaël Baroin, the vineyard achieved organic certification in 2025, confirming its deep commitment to environmental stewardship.
The vineyard
Located on the prestigious Côte de Beaune, the vineyard rests on a complex geological mosaic composed of marl-limestone soils, clay, and limestone, at an altitude ranging between 220 and 340 metres. This red wine is the result of a meticulous selection of seventeen distinct plots classified as Premier Cru within the Beaune appellation. All of these vines are farmed organically, fostering biodiversity and the authentic expression of each terroir.
Winemaking and aging
After manual harvesting and a rigorous double sorting, both in the vineyard and at the winery, the grapes from each climat are vinified separately to preserve their individual identity. Pressing takes place in two stages. The Beaune 1er cru "du Château" Domaine 2020 is first aged for nine to ten months in French oak barrels, with up to 15% new wood. The wine is then refined for three to four months in stainless steel tanks, within the château's historic underground galleries, before the final blend and bottling.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
