The estate

Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, Bouchard Père & Fils stands as the largest owner of Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte d'Or in Bourgogne, with 130 hectares spread across 450 plots. Acquired in 2022 by Artémis Domaines (the Pinault family), the estate underwent a major restructuring in 2024 with the creation of Domaine des Cabottes. Under the leadership of Frédéric Engerer and the expertise of Frédéric Weber, the estate obtained full organic certification in 2025. Based at the Château de Beaune since 1820, Bouchard holds exceptional parcels including Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne.

The vineyard

Chapelle-Chambertin is one of the most prestigious Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, spanning around five hectares within the Côte de Nuits. Its name comes from a chapel built in 1155 by the monks of the Abbaye de Bèze, destroyed during the French Revolution. The terroir is defined by particularly poor, shallow soils resting on a dense subsoil. This austere soil forces the vine to draw nutrients from deep down, encouraging the production of concentrated, complex grapes. This geological composition gives the wines a distinctive mineral dimension and exceptional aging potential.

The vintage

The year 2014 was recognized as excellent in Bourgogne. Climatic conditions enabled optimal ripening of the grapes, with harvesting starting late on September 23 and continuing until early October. This extended harvest period helped achieve full phenolic ripeness while preserving a fine acid balance. Yields remained under control, allowing the production of concentrated wines with a pronounced tannic structure and beautiful aromatic complexity.

Vinification and aging

The Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014 was aged in oak barrels for twelve to fourteen months, with a proportion reaching up to 60% new barrels. This extended maturation allows for harmonious integration of the wine’s components and the development of complex secondary aromas. The measured use of new oak brings subtle spicy and vanilla notes without masking the expression of the terroir. This traditional approach encourages the softening of the tannins and the emergence of a velvety texture characteristic of the great wines of Bourgogne.
