A refined and complex Franciacorta wine

The estate

When Annamaria Clementi acquired a small house that was poised on a hill in Ebursco in 1964 and planted vines there, her son Maurizio's life changed. At the age of just 15, the young man stumbled upon the fabulous Franciacorta terroir. Fascinated by the Champagne method, he embarked on a pursuit of excellence that has never ceased to drive Ca' del Bosco. Maurizio Zanella became an emblematic figure in the revival of Italian wines, producing some of the most renowned red, white and sparkling organic wines in Italy. There is no doubt that with this talented winemaker at the helm, the revolutionary estate has many more chapters to write.

The vineyard

Ca' del Bosco's Cuvée Prestige Edizione 45 Extra Brut is made from 218 different parcels of vines that are 19, 28 and 29 years old on average. 170 plots of Chardonnay, 43 plots of Pinot Noir and 5 plots of Pinot Blanc.

The wine

Cuvée Prestige Edizione 45 is made from a blend of vintages. To the base vintage, proportions of reserve wines from other years are gradually added. Thus, this Franciacorta wine is made up of 68% of the 2020 vintage to which 29% of the 2019 vintage and 3% of the 2018 vintage have been added.

The vintage

A dry and relatively mild winter and spring favoured early budburst and flowering. The end of spring was marked by rainy and stormy periods leading to a significant drop in temperature and a high humidity. The warm and sunny summer conditions are ideal for refining the ripeness of the grapes.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand with great care and are then sorted and cooled. They are then soaked in a "berry spa" before being dried. Thanks to pressing without oxygen, the fruit does not oxidise and its aromatic potential is preserved. Fermentation then takes place until the following March in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wines are then blended in a "magic ritual" to create this Cuvée Prestige Edizione 45. This blend is aged for 25 months on lees. Lastly, disgorgement is carried out in an oxygen-free environment to prevent oxidation and avoid the addition of sulphites in order to achieve an utterly pure Prestige Cuvée.
