A Vivacious and Intensely Aromatic White First Wine from Médoc

A white First Wine of the emblematic 4th Classified Growth Château Talbot in the Saint-Julien appellation, Caillou Blanc was created by Georges Cordier, the grandfather of the current owners and a true pioneer with a particular affinity for white wines. He made a visionary decision and became one of the first to reintroduce white grape varieties to the Médoc in the 30s.

A challenging vintage indeed, 2017 has proven very successful for the white wines of Bordeaux and the Caillou Blanc 2017 from Talbot confirms it.

Blessed with a superb terroir in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, the Château Talbot vineyard was fortunately spared by the frost at the end of April. Nature has proved generous, favouring the optimal development of the vine’s vegetative cycle. The fresh temperatures of the summer nights preserved the freshness and purity of the fruit, resulting in grapes with concentrated flavours, reflecting a perfect balance between sugar and acidity. 2017 was an early vintage with harvest beginning during the first days of September.

Produced in the Bordeaux Blancs Secs appellation, the Caillou Blanc 2017 offers an aromatic expression that reveals the personality of Sauvignon Blanc, dominating the blend with 70%, through notes of white-fleshed fruit and citrus. Sémillon (30%) lends the wine its juicy and fruity touch. Purity and freshness of fruit, a vivacious attack leading to a beautiful texture, a perfectly balanced acidity – the Caillou Blanc 2017 of the Château Talbot is a very promising vintage indeed.
