Description
The balance and vivacity of a Tuscan red wine
The estate
In the shadow of the majestic Tuscan hills lies Casanova di Neri, a renowned winery where tradition blends harmoniously with innovation. The estate was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri and is now run by his son Giacomo, who has inherited the same love of wine and terroir as his father. Here, every bottle is a reflection of the year it was produced, and bears witness to a relentless quest for quality and authenticity.
The vineyard
A benchmark among Tuscan wines, Cerrelalto from Casanova di Neri stems from a vineyard covering more than 63 hectares. The vines benefit from a microclimate that favours the cultivation of Sangiovese, the region's emblematic grape variety. The particular attention paid to sustainable viticulture allows each plot to express itself, producing authentic and expressive wines.
The vintage
The winter was a mild one, with generous rainfall in February. Budburst was regular during the first week of April. The end of May saw flowering in sunny weather, providing optimum conditions for successful fruit set. The summer, which avoided extreme heat waves, had a few showers. The grapes ripened slowly and steadily, helped by significant temperature variations between day and night in the days leading up to the harvest. This Brunello di Montalcino wine comes from a year with ideal weather conditions, characterised by temperature oscillations that helped the grapes to ripen almost perfectly.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes were selected by hand before and after de-stemming. Fermentation is spontaneous, without the use of yeast. Maceration took place in temperature-controlled truncated wooden vats for 32 days, with punching down of the cap. The wine was then aged for 36 months in casks and a further 24 months in bottle before being released on the market.
